Droupadi Murmu- 15th President of India
The 15th President of India, the first Tribal Leader as President, the youngest and the first person born after independence to become President, the first Woman from Odisha to become President, the second Woman President, the first Woman Governor of Jharkhand, and so many more, her achievements are impeccable.
Droupadi Murmu, our current and 15th President of India, began her journey from humble beginnings in Uparbeda, Mayurbanj, Odisha. She was born on 20 June 1958 into the Santhal Tribe. The name given to her by her family was Puti Tudu until one of her teachers gave her the new name by which we know her today.
She did her schooling in schools from Uparbeda and Bhubaneshwar, and did her BA in Arts in the Rama Devi Women’s College. She has been a teacher, social worker, government officer, MLA, Minister, and Jharkhand’s Governor over the years.
“I am surprised as well as delighted. As a tribal woman from remote Mayurbhanj district, I had not thought about becoming the candidate for the top post,” is what she had quoted after being selected as the presidential candidate. And today, she has become the President of India, the highest authority in the country. I believe that her resilience, willpower, and dedication to serving society are what brought her this far.
She has been through many struggles in life and has gone through many ups and downs, but she has always stood firm and determined and faced what life has brought to her. She has strived and worked hard to be where she is today and is a huge inspiration for many of us!
